How did MKU start—what’s the origin story?
“MKU started with another local league based on where you live, most of us live pretty close to the area and over time has grown into the team we have today.”
How long has MKU been playing together in Gotham?
“MKU has been playing together in Gotham for about 4 years”
What’s kept the team together over time?
“Friendships and consistent playing.”
How has the team changed since the early days?
“In the early days, there was a lot of turnover within the team. Now we’ve got a solid core of players which helps us on the pitch. We all know each other pretty well at this point.”
How would you describe MKU’s vibe in three words?
“Laid-back, competitive, caring.”
What does MKU do well off the field that helps the team stick together?
“The team has tried to host at least 1 team get together a year with everyone on the team. Many of us also hang out off the pitch, enjoy going to local bars, and going to Indy Eleven games!”
What’s something you’re proud of about the team culture?
“We are an easy-going group, but can turn on the competitiveness when it’s needed. Also if things aren’t going well in a match, we always try to lift each other up.”
Did MKU always have a name and identity, or did that evolve?
“The crest has evolved, but the name, colors, and identity are still the same!”
How did you decide on ‘Meridian Kessler United’ and what does the name mean to you?
“We didn’t create it, but we were placed on the team due to location and have kept the name over the years.”
Is there anything that Gotham does that makes it a go-to league for MKU?
“We’ve enjoyed playing with Gotham over the years because there is a good balance of competitive and fun soccer. The Indy Gotham team has been great with communication over the years and we enjoy playing with them throughout the year.”
