Team Identity

What’s the story behind Dunder Mifflin? How did the team first come together?

“The team grew out of a group that was already playing together in other leagues. Some of us share four other teams, and most of us are on the field together every Wednesday and Friday.

Dunder Mifflin officially came together in 2021. Kevin, Max, Adrian, Ricardo, and Allissia have all been part of the group since the early days. What has kept everyone together is the friendships that have formed away from the field.”

What’s the story behind the team name?

“The name comes from The Office. We always play in blue Dunder Mifflin jerseys, and that look has become a big part of the team’s identity.”

How has the team changed since the beginning?

“We’ve made roster changes by bringing in players from the other teams we play on together. We also introduced our own uniforms, which have helped give us an identity that feels unique within Gotham.

The level of competitiveness has definitely increased to match the intensity of the Gotham league, but the biggest highlight is still how close everyone has become. We see each other at least once a week—and often two or three times—and those friendships have grown through soccer.

For the most part, the core of the team has remained consistent over the past two years. Every Gotham season that has been offered, Dunder Mifflin has been there.”

What keeps the team coming back season after season?

“The time we spend together. Wednesdays are a breath of fresh air—a chance for everyone to see one another, enjoy each other’s company, and talk about what is happening in our lives.

We’ve been there for each other through major life changes, injuries, and celebrations. Even when we have a bye week, we’ll still get together on Wednesday and go out to eat.”

What makes playing with Gotham in Tucson special?

“Kino Stadium is one of the best fields Tucson has to offer. Over the years, the level of competition has continued to increase as the league has grown, and Tucson has a strong soccer community in general. Kino consistently gives us lined, level fields without dips—and some of the best grass around.

We also appreciate the consistency and organization. Every season, we know we have a place to play. The Gotham Tucson crew has gotten to know us over the years and has been very accommodating when schedule adjustments are needed.

Some of us coach high school teams, manage our children’s sports schedules, or participate in other soccer and basketball leagues, so that communication and flexibility mean a lot.”

A Few More Questions

What are three words that describe the team?

“Competitive, resilient, loyal.”

What is the team dynamic like away from the field?

“If the game doesn’t end too late, we like to grab food afterward at the closest In-N-Out. We’ve celebrated birthdays together, played in tournaments together, and gone to FC Tucson games as a group.

The friendships have also created opportunities outside of Gotham. Many of us continue playing together on other teams and in other soccer tournaments.”

What is a classic Dunder Mifflin moment?

“We’re known for not liking to lose. We take every game as seriously as if it were the World Cup.

When we lose, everyone is in a bad mood and immediately starts discussing strategies for the next game. We hold each other accountable—the good and the bad—and honesty has always been one of our strongest qualities.

And when someone misses an open shot directly in front of the goal, they already know they’re going to get roasted.”

"Every Wednesday gives us a reason to pause life, get together with people we love, and play a game we all love."

What is Dunder Mifflin known for around the league?

“Our uniforms and our consistency. We show up every week, every season, and for every game. Our Wednesday team always brings good energy, and playing together is one of the highlights of our week.”

What would you tell a new team or free agent thinking about joining Gotham?

“Come and join! It’s a great time, with competitive teams playing great soccer. Once you join, it’s hard to leave because the energy every Wednesday night is so much fun.”
